Wood Privacy Fencing

One of the fence designs more often associated with traditional styles are wooden privacy fences. Unlike the open style of a classic white picket fence, which gained popularity in the mid 20th century, more private type fence styles have emerged. There are many other wood privacy fence choices that you can check out here. The most common design in many Austin neighborhoods is the typical six-foot tall wood fence offering natural beauty along with security and privacy. These can be made using cedar and treated pine. Cedar materials are more stable and have the added benefit of being able to withstand the intense Austin heat that will warp treated pine materials.

For fence stability and added durability we recommend adding a third horizontal rail. Steel posts can also be utilized in lieu of pine or cedar. Although the look may be a little more “industrial” you wouldn’t need to worry about insect damage, water damage or rotting.

Some of the more elaborate wood privacy designs include cedar caps and trims that add a more finished and elegant look to the fence.  Another option is to add cedar lattice or galvanized steel cattle panel inserts to the top of the fence for added aesthetic appeal.
